Meet Councilmember Alfred Sinegal

Tell us a little about yourself.
I was born and raised in Carencro and graduated from Carencro High School in 1974. After high school, I continued my education at the University of New Orleans and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, majoring in political science.

What prompted you to run for office?
I served for seven years on the Parks and Recreation Commission of Carencro, and when my term was complete, I wanted to find a way to continue serving the community. I am now in my ninth year as a City Council representative. My focus continues to be working on drainage and improving our streets.

What would you like to share about your work, your family and your free-time interests?
I am happily retired after 21 years as a school bus driver for the Lafayette Parish School System, but I do continue to work as a substitute driver when needed.

My wife Camelia and I have been married for 40 years, and have two children and two grandchildren. In our spare time, we love to cook. It’s an activity we’ve enjoyed doing together for a long time and we had the pleasure of selling bar-b-que dinners for 11 years. I still enjoy cooking up delicious food for a crowd, and in July, I cooked a jambalaya to feed the Carencro Police Department and Carencro Fire Department during Hurricane Barry. I also have a passion for thoroughbred horse racing, and had the opportunity to race a couple of horses with moderate success.
